What is a grobag® baby sleeping bag?
A grobag® baby sleeping bag is a wearable blanket that will keep your baby at a comfortable temperature all night long. A safe and sound night's sleep for your baby means peace of mind and more sleep for you!
Until quite recently baby sleeping bags were a little known form of bedding in the UK. Convinced of the inherent safety benefits and the related improvement in sleep for both child and parent, in 2000, Rob and Ouvrielle Holmes, working in close partnership with the Foundation for the Study of Infant Death (FSID), introduced grobag® baby sleeping bags to the UK.
As a result of grobag's continued work with FSID and dedication to safety, grobag® are now the only baby sleeping bags to be recommended by FSID, our official partner in promoting safer sleeping for babies.
What makes a grobag® different
Winner of the Mother & Baby Gold Award for Best nursery item for three years running (2004/5, 2005/6, 2006/7) and the founders of grobag® were also presented with a prestigious Award for Excellence 2006. Other awards include achieving Kids Superbrand status in 2006, picking up the Tommy's parent friendly award in 2005 and being given a 'Top Gear' accolade by FQ Dads Magazine.
Innovation is always a focus with grobag®. For example, we invented the toddler proof zip-click™ feature, to help prevent adventurous little ones from opening the zip. New designs are added the range each season, in styles to suit every taste and in a range of different fabrics.
With grobag® you get reassurance and peace of mind, because safety and comfort is at the heart of everything we do. All our baby sleeping bags meet British Standards and the safety guidelines of FSID. This means a better night's sleep, both for your baby and for the rest of the family!
Extensive research has been conducted to ensure that each size grobag® baby sleeping bag fits properly - big enough so that air can circulate and baby does not overheat - small enough to ensure that baby does not slip down inside. Our 0-6 month size is now suitable to be used from 7lbs. All our grobag® baby sleeping bags have a cotton lining, which is kind to your baby's skin
Sizes, togs and what to wear
An ideal time to start using a grobag® baby sleeping bag is when your baby weighs more than 7 lbs (0-6 mths size). It is very important to check that your baby’s head cannot pass through the neck-hole when the grobag® baby sleeping bag is fastened for use.
Please remember that these are recommendations only as all babies are different. Make sure that your baby’s legs and feet have freedom to move about, by ensuring that the grobag® baby sleeping bag is long enough for your baby. The lengths of grobag® baby sleeping bags (from shoulder to bottom) are:
0-6 mths 76cm,
6-18 mths 94cm
18-36 mths 112cm
3-6 yrs 128cm
A tog measurement is a European warmth rating: the higher the tog, the warmer the product. grobag® baby sleeping bags are available in three tog ratings.
2.5 tog - Ideal for standard nursery temperatures of 16-20°C (61-69°F)
1.0 tog - Use during warmer weather and in nurseries fo 20-24°C (69-73°F)
0.5 tog - For hot weather and very warm nursery environments of 24-27°C (73-80°F)
Please note: A number of external factors determine the tog rating of the grobag® baby sleeping bag that should be used. These include the quantity of clothing the baby is wearing, the temperature of the infant’s bedroom, the baby’s health and the amount of bedding necessary to keep an individual infant warm – this may vary as it does for adults.
Check your baby regularly to ensure they do not overheat. Your grobag® baby sleeping bag comes with a free nursery thermometer to help you select which tog grobag® baby sleeping bag to use and what sleepwear to put your baby in.
The table below shows guidelines for the amount of clothing for your baby and the correct tog of grobag® baby sleeping bag that should be used in different nursery temperatures.
grobag® baby sleeping bag safety advice
We are obsessed with safety of our products and we work very closely with the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID). We help spread the 'safe sleep' message and help fund research into safer sleeping. Below you will find advice on how to use your grobag® baby sleeping bag correctly:
Your grobag® baby sleeping bag is intended to be used instead of blankets and sheets.
Never use your grobag® baby sleeping bag with a duvet or quilt.
Check that your baby's head cannot pass through the neck hole when the grobag® baby sleeping bag is fastened for use.
Adjust nightwear according to room temperature (you will soon discover the best combination of nightclothes, blankets and grobag® baby sleeping bag for your baby's bedroom). See what to wear page for more information.
Keep grobag® baby sleeping bags away from fire.
The safest place for your baby to sleep is in a crib or cot in a room with you for the first six months. After that if your baby shares your bed, make sure they are only in a grobag® baby sleeping bag and not under your own bedding as well.
Remember to check your baby regularly.
